As the “Birthplace of America’s Music,” Mississippi’s musical landscape is much like the golf scene. It’s exciting and varied and reflects regional influences. The creation of the Mississippi Blues Trail tells the story of the birth and growth of the Blues and an exciting Golf & Blues event to be held in the fall of 2016 invites golfers to compete on some of the Biloxi area’s most challenging golf layouts during the day while enjoying gulf seafood, musical entertainment and casino gaming at night.

Mississippi has been instrumental in, not only the birth, but also the growth and popularity of musical genres such as blues, country and, of course, rock and roll, thanks to its most famous musical son, Elvis Presley. And these musical styles are truly American-made. The song lyrics boast of their history and the beats and rhythms reflect their diverse heritage.

The Mississippi Blues Trail takes visitors on a musical journey through the state to sites honoring B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Son House and more. Much like the Mississippi Blues Trail, the Mississippi Country Music Trail celebrates Mississippi’s rich heritage of country music legends and chart toppers, such as “the father of country music” Jimmie Rodgers, Marty Stuart, Charley Pride, Conway Twitty and Faith Hill.The-Shed-300x200

Although the game of golf was not born here, Mississippi has cultivated great layouts and worked to perfect its golf offerings. And the experts have weighed in with resounding applause. Golf Digest, GOLF® Magazine and Golfweek have all rated Mississippi courses as some of the best in the nation; both the PGA TOUR and the Champions Tour have made Mississippi a regular stop in their schedules; plus those competitive amateur golfers come to challenge one another in the Golf and Blues events each year.

There aren’t formal markers to direct you to the next challenging layout on your golf journey in Mississippi, so the trail of great golf in the state is presented in this Golf Guide. It contains information about courses, lodging options and golf packages. The information is arranged by Mississippi’s five diverse topographical regions: The Hills Region, featuring gently rolling landscapes; The Delta Region, with its wide-open flatlands; The Capital/River Region with its winding waterways and rich history; The Pines Region, blanketed with quiet forests; and The Coastal Region, boasting the Gulf of Mexico’s sparkling water and beaches. No matter where you plan to spend your Mississippi golf vacation, there’s a spot along one of the musical trails for you to stop, play and listen. It might not help you find your game, but it will help you find your musical roots.

More information to come.
